– 1 lb turnips, peeled and chopped – 16-oz bag frozen cauliflower florets – ¼ c heavy cream – 4 tbsp butter, melted – 1 tbsp olive oil – 1 yellow onion, diced to ½” – 2 stalks celery, diced to ½” – 2 carrots, peeled and diced to ½” – 2 cloves garlic, minced – 2 lb ground lamb or beef – 3 tbsp tomato paste – 1/2 c beef broth – 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce – 1 tsp dried thyme – 1 tsp kosher salt – ½ tsp ground pepper

INGREDIENTS

Simmer cauliflower and turnips until very soft.

Mash with butter and heavy cream with a potato masher or hand held mixer.

Saute onion, carrot, and celery until soft, then add garlic and cook 1 minute.

Add beef or lamb and cook until no longer pink.

Thicken with tomato paste, then add broth and seasonings.

Layer filling into a casserole dish.

Spread mashed potatoes over filling.

Use the tines of a fork to make ridges for texture.

Bake in a 375°F oven for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.

Rest five minutes, then scoop and serve.
